If you’re looking to see one of the top catchers in the area, you don’t need to look any further than Westlake. Anthony Rotunno may be one of the best kept secrets in Section 1, and he’ll anchor a lineup that looks like it could pack some punch. The Wildcats should be able to put up runs this year, and if they straighten out their pitching staff, could be a dangerous team. Another sleeper squad in Class B.

Here are the responses that I received from coach Michael Paquette:

How many years have you been coaching with your school? I’ve been coaching six years on varsity. Michael Ferrauto joins the varsity staff this year.

How did the team do last season? 9-11 regular season. Lost opening round of the Class B playoffs 3-2 to Lourdes.

Who are your top returning players? Anthony Rotunno, Michael Sanchez and Michael Poggioreale.

Who are the top players that you lost to graduation? Michael Cerrato.

What is your team’s biggest strength? Returning most of starting lineup.

How do you feel about your pitching entering the season? Pitching is unproven and young, but looks promising.

Your lineup? I feel positive about our lineup. Anthony Rotunno, Michael Sanchez and Michael Poggioreale return as last years top hitters and run producers.

Are there any areas that you’re concerned about? Our pitching staff is young and unproven, but the guys are working hard to get more consistent with throwing strikes and pitch location.

Which team(s) is your biggest rival? Pleasantville.

When is your opening game? Valhalla 3/31 at Westlake.
