Westlake moves up to 8th in the rankings

Posted Tuesday, May 13, 2014 by Journal News

1. Rye Neck (14-0-1) PR: 1
2. North Salem (16-1) PR: 2
3. Putnam Valley (12-3) PR: 4
4. Albertus Magnus (10-6) PR: 3
5. Briarcliff (9-5) PR: 6
6. Keio (8-7) PR: 5
7. Valhalla (8-6) PR: 10
8. Westlake (9-9) PR: NR
9. Croton-Harmon (9-7) PR: 7
10. Hastings (8-9) PR: 9
On the fringe: Blind Brook (6-11), Palisade Prep (9-3-1), Pawling (6-12)
NOTES: North Salem finally suffered its first loss against Pawling last week, but the top two remains intact. The Tigers will play Put Valley twice this week in two big league games, so that will settle who should be No. 2 behind Rye Neck on the field… Magnus has lost three straight, but all to ranked Class A schools (twice to TZ and once to Nyack). The Falcons play a tough schedule, which makes it surprising that they have as many wins as they do… At this point, I’d say it’s pretty clear that Briarcliff and Keio deserve to be 5-6, but the order is kind of a toss-up. The Bears have won six straight, while Keio’s only losses to a Class B opponent came in two 2-1 losses to Rye Neck. The good news is, Briarcliff and Keio will play on Friday… Valhalla has been getting hot, with wins over Westlake, Dobbs Ferry and Blind Brook. The Vikings have a crazy week coming with games on six consecutive days (two vs. Rye Neck, two vs. Keio and one apiece against Briarcliff and Croton)… Westlake swept Croton to move up, but I couldn’t put the Wildcats any higher with losses to Magnus, Briarcliff and Keio… Croton continues to prove that it belongs in the top 10 with a sweep of Blind Brook and a 2-1 win over Pleasantville on Saturday… Hastings rounds out the top 10 after sweeping Dobbs Ferry and Irvington.
